Subscribe to Rice News and Frequently Asked Website Questions

Hopefully by now you’ve had a chance to browse through our new website at Our goal for this new site is to continue to be a resource for our current Rice families while also providing valuable information for prospective families, alumni and donors. We welcome your feedback and appreciate your patience as we tweak some of the site’s function and content.

One of the most useful aspects of our new site is News and Calendar postings. To stay abreast of Rice happenings, you should SUBSCRIBE to News and Calendar postings via email and/or text message. To do so, go to and click on the Calendar tab on the top navigation bar. The subscription options are found on the left side of the Calendar page. Once you’ve subscribed, you will receive a confirmation email instructing you to choose which categories of information you wish to receive. Click on all or a few that are of particular importance to you. Once complete, you will begin receiving notifications as they are posted. If you should need to change these categories, you will need to unsubscribe and subscribe again, so think ahead when making your selections.

In the meantime, here are a few tips for navigating the new website based on our most frequently heard questions:

  • Summer Reading List – It can be found under Library Resources which is found in the Academics section of the website -
  • Calendar – There are three ways to access the Rice events calendar: from the navigation bar at the top of the page, under Resources, and under Quick Links. It is a painstaking task to enter all of our calendar information, so bear with us while we get it up to date.
  • First Day of School and Academic Calendar – The first day of school for ALL students is Thursday, September 1. The 2011-12 academic calendar is the first item on our Downloads page –
